THE PROJECT BACKSTORY
Nyaal Banyul, the Geelong Convention and Event Centre, is a point of architectural pride for the City of Greater Geelong and one of the largest developments regional Victoria has seen. The waterfront precinct combines a 1,000-seat venue, expansive exhibition spaces, event facilities, and an adjoining 200-room hotel.
A venue of this scale presents challenges that many buildings never face. Exhibition floors must support the weight of heavy vehicles and installations while ensuring power and essential services remain easily accessible throughout the space. This is where ECD’s experience and expertise came to the forefront, designing and supplying the heavy-duty floor and pit box systems integrated throughout the exhibition areas.

WHAT WE DID
Working alongside Consulting Engineers WSP and Architects Woods Bagot, ECD designed and supplied extra-strength floor and pit box systems for the event and exhibition spaces.
- Engineered to a Class D 80kN load rating in full compliance with AS/NZS 3996, the custom solution was designed to withstand extraordinary loads while providing reliable access to power and other essential services wherever required.
- Delivered a fully integrated floor pit system manufactured from high-tensile and stainless steel, concealing a comprehensive network of power, data, fibre optic, audio-visual and plumbing services beneath the floor.
- Incorporated ease of use, safety and accessibility for all stakeholders and end users.
- Coordinated the supply and delivery requirements for the electrical, data, hydraulic services and audio-visual contractors.
- The result is a robust, future-ready infrastructure solution that remains completely out of sight until needed, then performs seamlessly as the venue demands.
